Happy Humpday! It's almost Memorial Day! Summer is my favorite time of the year, and it definitely felt like summer to me last weekend. I had the opportunity to go to the PGA Championship last weekend thanks to the generous offer of a friend who gave her tickets to me and my daughter. It was a special day for the two of us for so many reasons. As many of you know, I played golf in college. I don't have much time to play these days, but I still love the game.
We saw so many greats of the sport, and we followed Patrick Cantlay, a pro golfer who is an acquaintance of my father's. The crowds were impressive and and it definitely felt as though things are returning to normal!
At one point we decided to grab some water so we entered a concession booth near the 10th hole. It just so happened that the tent was being run by the South Carolina Chapter of the ALS Foundation! It touched my heart that the Foundation was raising awareness and money for ALS, especially since my husband and I lost a longtime friend last week who ironically was diagnosed with ALS about a year before my husband. What are the odds that two friends, both of the same age and residing in Charleston, are diagnosed with ALS?
It is a horrible disease that seems to be affecting more and more people every year. It also struck me that another untold fallout from Covid is the impact that the Covid cancellations have had on fundraising for these worthwhile, important, and much needed organizations
.Back to the golf... was exciting to watch history as Phil Mickelson won, being the oldest person to win a major championship.
His win gives inspiration to all of us; not only because was he older than his competitors (let me be clear, he is not old, lol), but he was also diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis several years ago. I love his post win tweet: I’ve failed many times in my life and career and because of this I’ve learned a lot.
Instead of feeling defeated countless times, I’ve used it as fuel to drive me to work harder. So today, join me in accepting our failures. Let’s use them to motivate us to work even harder. So let's embrace humpday and keep plugging along! Memorial Day is almost here. Don't forget your sunscreen as you enjoy the weather and shed your masks! And to celebrate the holiday weekend, we are offering our discounted gift cards for today only as a flash sale.
